HDS Australia has recently completed the design of a major upgrade and refurbishment to the SA Water River Road wastewater pump station in Port Noarlunga.
The project scope included the replacement of the existing pumps, pipe work and fittings, ventilation, power supply, improvements to operator access and refurbishment of the existing wet well. HDS Australia are working with Fulton Hogan, who are undertaking the works under a design and construct contract with SA Water. Key HDS Australia staff on the project were Duncan Howie, Phil Castles and Herman Zhou.
Inflow to the pump station is via a 1m diameter gravity drain while the outflow is by a 550mm rising main outflow to the Christies Beach treatment plant approximately 1km away. The desired project outcomes for SA Water are an improved reliability in sewer service, reduced risk of environmental incidents and provision of a safe working environment. The modifications to the pump station allow optimum operation for the current and future flows as a result of the forecast growth in the catchment.
The construction phase of the project is now underway, with HDS Australia providing ongoing design support to Fulton Hogan. The project is planned such that the upgrade and refurbishment is carried out while the existing station is online.
