On May 15, 2017, James Reynolds, Business Development Officer, of HDS Australia's Victorian Office, attended an ITEANZ (Institute of Transportation Engineers Australia & New Zealand) seminar at university. The special guest speaker was the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development.
The Shadow Minister presented to a packed audience on a wide range of transport related topics, with an emphasis on the impacts of the recent federal government budget for infrastructure funding. He also discussed the efforts of the previous government to set up Infrastructure Australia as a independent body that would generate a pipeline of projects, including major transport improvement projects, and disconnect longer term infrastructure decision making from the political cycle.
A spirited question and answer session followed the presentation. It was particularly interesting to hear the discussion of the politial influences on transportation funding, policy and major projects. Many thanks to ITEANZ for hosting the event, and to the Shadow Minister for presenting and taking questions. James is certainly looking forward to future ITE seminars, and it is definitely exciting to hear directly from such a senior politician involved in the transportation sector.
