HDS Australia has recently commenced a large program of traffic counts in the Darlington, Trott Park and Noarlunga areas. Over 60 intersections are to be counted which will provide a base line of new traffic patterns following the recent opening of the Southern Expressway duplication.
Traffic can now use the Southern Expressway to travel south in the mornings and north in the afternoons, which has led to significant changes in traffic volumes and movements on the surrounding arterial roads. HDS Australia has been engaged by the South Australian Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) to provide base line counts of the new traffic patterns. This information will be used for the management of existing traffic operations and for future transport planning.
The counts are being undertaken over 12 hour periods, using a combination of manual and video methods. Up to 15 HDS Australia staff will be engaged daily in the counting program, which has been scheduled for March and April so as to capture normal traffic patterns during the first school term of 2015. HDS Australia will be progressively surveying the network from Old Noarlundga and Seaford in the south to Darlington in the north over this period.
