On September 20, 2016 James Reynolds, Business Development Officer, and Hugh Dixon, Senior Traffic Engineer, attended an Engineers Australia Transport Australia Society seminar at which researchers from three of Melbourne’s Universities presented current research on a wide range of topics.
The presenters were from the University of Melbourne, Monash University and RMIT University. Topics covered included: tolls, waste management logistics, distribution centres, new directions in education and research, traffic signal control, millennials, public transport accessibility, greenhouse gases and heavy vehicle restrictions.
Of particular interest was research applications of new big data sources, such as Melbourne’s GTFS feed of public transport schedule data. Future changes in the transportation industry related to the travel behaviour of younger generations, the environmental impacts of current approaches or other factors was a theme touched on by a number of the presentations.
It is exciting to see this cutting edge research emanating from universities in Melbourne and HDS Australia staff are certainly looking forward to future Transport Australia Society events.
